Hammond, Indiana—The United States Attorney's Office announced:

 

Ralphael Scott, 34, of Markham, Illinois, was sentenced by Judge Joseph Van Bokkelen to 70 months imprisonment and 3 years of supervised release after pleading guilty to count two of a superseding indictment charging him with extortion. This case was the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation GRIT Task Force. This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jacqueline Jacobs and Susan Collins.

 

Richard Darnell, 30, of Hammond, Indiana, pled guilty before Senior Judge James Moody to count one of an information charging him with maintaining a drug involved premises. This charge was filed as the result of an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Thomas Ratcliffe.

 

Patrick Roy, 20, of Gary, Indiana, pled guilty before Judge Joseph Van Bokkelen to count one of an indictment charging him with making false statements to purchase a firearm. Sentencing has been set for 4/26/11. This charge was filed as the result of an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives HIDTA Task Force. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Nicholas Padilla.

 

Marvin Mallett, 38, of Gary, Indiana, pled guilty before Judge Joseph Van Bokkelen to count one of an indictment charging him with being a felon in possession of a firearm. Mallett was convicted of Criminal Recklessness in 2004. Sentencing has been set for 4/19/11. This charge was filed as the result of an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives HIDTA Task Force, and the Gary Police Department. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Nicholas Padilla.

 

Ulysses Scott, 49, of Merrillville, Indiana, was sentenced by Judge Joseph Van Bokkelen to 37 months imprisonment and 3 years of supervised release after pleading guilty to count one of an indictment charging him with being a felon in possession of a firearm. Scott was convicted of trafficking in cocaine and carrying a weapon during the commission of a felony in 2000. This case was the result of an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives HIDTA Task Force. This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Nicholas Padilla.

 

Eric Caldwell, 19, of Country Club Hills, Illinois, was sentenced by Judge Joseph Van Bokkelen to months imprisonment and years of supervised release after pleading guilty to count one of an indictment charging him with conspiracy to sell and dispose of two stolen firearms. This case was the result of an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the Hammond Police Department, the Harvey, Illinois Police Department, and the Cook County Sheriff’s Department. This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Dean Lanter.

 

Nathaniel Baxter, 29, of Gary, Indiana, pled guilty before Judge Joseph Van Bokkelen to an indictment charging him with possession with the intent to distribute crack cocaine. These charges were filed as the result of an investigation by GRIT, and the Indiana State Police . This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Thomas Ratcliffe.

 

            The specific sentence in each case to be imposed upon conviction will be determined by the judge after a consideration of federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
